What We Value
In our love for God and our desire to glorify him in all we do and say, we the people of Central Bible Church base our devotion and ministry on these values:
We value the Word of God
for authority, meaning and life transformation.
Hebrews 4:12-13: For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.
2 Timothy 3:16-17: All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.
James 1:22-23: Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says.
We value prayer —
both individually and as a believing community.
John 14:12-14: "I tell you the truth, anyone who has faith in me will do what I have been doing. He will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father. And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Son may bring glory to the Father. You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it."
1 Timothy 2:1: I urge, then, first of all, that requests, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for everyone-
We value authentic relationships
which are best nurtured in small groups.
Acts 2:46-47: They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts…
Romans 16:5: Greet also the church that meets in their house.
Romans 12:10: Be devoted to one another in brotherly love.
We value unity, diversity and interdependence in the church
as expressed by believers of various ages, gifting and cultural backgrounds worshipping and serving together.
1 Corinthians 12:12-27: The body is a unit, though it is made up of many parts; and though all its parts are many, they form one body. So it is with Christ…Now the body is not made up of one part but of many…. If they were all one part, where would the body be? As it is, there are many parts, but one body…. But God has combined the members of the body … so that there should be no division in the body, but that its parts should have equal concern for each other…. Now you are the body of Christ, and each one of you is a part of it.
We value equipping believers —
nurturing them to spiritual maturity and empowering them for effective service according to their individual gifting.
Ephesians 4:11-13: It was he who gave some to be apostles, some to be prophets, some to be evangelists, and some to be pastors and teachers, to prepare God's people for works of service….
1 Peter 4:10: Each one should use whatever gift he has received to serve others, faithfully administering God's grace in its various forms.
2 Timothy 2:1-2: You then, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus. And the things you have heard me say in the presence of many witnesses entrust to reliable men who will also be qualified to teach others.
We value the spread of the gospel
in word and acts of compassion to those without Christ.
Matthew 28:19-20: "Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age."
Romans 15:20-21: It has always been my ambition to preach the gospel where Christ was not known, so that I would not be building on someone else's foundation.
We value children —
affirming spiritual foundations in formative years can prepare them for a life-time of discipleship.
Matthew 19:13-14: Then little children were brought to Jesus for him to place his hands on them and pray for them. But the disciples rebuked those who brought them. Jesus said, "Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these."
Mark 10:15-16: "I tell you the truth, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it." And he took the children in his arms, put his hands on them and blessed them.
We value corporate worship
in which God among us is the audience and the worshippers are participants together.
Acts 2:46-47: Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people.
1 Corinthians 14:26: What then shall we say, brothers? When you come together, everyone has a hymn, or a word of instruction, a revelation, a tongue or an interpretation. All of these must be done for the strengthening of the church.
We value relevance
in our teaching, ministry and evangelism using creativity and innovation.
1 Corinthians 9:19-23: Though I am free and belong to no man, I make myself a slave to everyone, to win as many as possible…I have become all things to all men so that by all possible means I might save some. I do all this for the sake of the gospel….
Colossians 4:5-6: Be wise in the way you act toward outsiders; make the most of every opportunity. Let your conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone.
We value excellence —
doing the work of God with all our heart using the time, gifting and resources entrusted to us.
Colossians 3:23-24: Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.
